My Students

"We like to move it! Move it!" could be the theme of our music classroom. In music class we move from activity to activity quickly! We need a rug to facilitate easy transitions from sitting, to dancing to playing. Will you help us get off the cold tile floor?

I teach in a rural school district and see nearly 450 students in Kindergarten through 6th grades.

Community members often feel isolated as they must drive 20 minutes to the nearest town to buy groceries and other necessities. The community offers no local fine arts performance opportunities or musical venues. Students must travel over an hour and a half for cultural events like concerts and art museums. For most students experiences with musical instruments, dance and composing come only at school.

My Project

We are thankful for our spacious music room. Your donation will provide a bright, colorful rug that we can use every day! Right now we have chairs and a cold tile floor. For about half of my classes these chairs are too tall. We move from activity to activity quickly and a rug would facilitate smoother transitions. The new rug would give us a place to meet for singing together and would serve as a visual aid when learning about music. The rug is divided into 5 rows, just like a music staff. Think of the fun we could have composing on this rug with music cards or even using our bodies as notes!
