My Project
There’s something truly magical about the way that theatre can ignite a middle schooler’s passion. I feel incredibly fortunate to be entrusted with building a theatre program at a school that is in the midst of an exciting transformation. Our first production was a resounding success, and my performers are already clamoring for more. Yet, I’m especially eager to reach those students who may be hesitant to take the stage—students with remarkable stories and creative visions who might shine through set and costume design.
Participating in theatre production offers middle schoolers so much more than just performance skills: it enhances communication, builds confidence, sparks creativity, and encourages teamwork.
It also fosters empathy, strengthens emotional intelligence, and can even lead to better academic outcomes. I believe every student has immense potential for self-expression, and I want every student to have the chance to develop these invaluable qualities. That’s why I’m committed to creating an engaging production design lab—a space where even the most reserved students can flourish and find their voice.
Our school is on a journey of renewal, guided by a visionary principal who understands that student engagement is the key to achieving our district’s ambitious goals. I’ve seen first-hand the transformation that happens when a student feels like a vital part of a school production. With this project, I hope to extend that sense of belonging and excitement to every student, both onstage and behind the scenes.
