Magic Doorway into Cultural Stories

Help me give my students a magic doorway into a world of books where the characters represent various cultural backgrounds. I want every student to feel included in my 2nd grade classroom!

My Project

Classroom Library inclusion is a hard thing to do but so incredibly important to help setup a safe and supportive room for the students. There research showing that students especially younger understand stories more if they can relate to the characters. If the characters are animals it can be harder for students to understand why they are reading that book but if they can read about other kids that look like them then BINGO they can get it.

I want to create and support students of all cultural and socio economic backgrounds by giving them a window into books about kids who look like them!

This will help support different reading standards and encourage amazing text conversations daily in the classroom setting.
