My first graders spend more time at the rug than at their seats. Daily instruction takes place at the carpet in all content areas. Also, the classroom rug would give the kids a safe, comfortable place to play math games, do independent reading, listen to stories and do many other activities!
My students are first graders at a Title I school in PA.
First graders are fun, loving, energetic kids that have a motivation to learn! My kids are very fortunate because of the new up-to-date programs that have been implemented in our district such as the Everyday Math Program, Treasures Reading Program and the FOSS Science Program.
My Project
The rug that I have chosen is very special in many ways. First off, it is a powerful classroom management tool. It gives each student his/her "own" area. Students can sit on the perimeter of the rug for classroom activities too. Students can line up in an orderly fashion by color. Students can be dismissed or separated into teams by colors. Attendance can be taken quickly by assigning a space to each student.
Also, this rug can be used for math activities such as creating a human bar graph and sorting activities. The opportunities are endless.
Lastly, I'm going to use this opportunity to teach the students about donating and the proper etiquette and manners that go along with this entire process. They will learn about the importance of Thank-Yous.
Please help my new class of six and seven-year-olds start off the year in the right step!
A new, colorful rug would help brighten up our classroom, and help establish classroom routines at the beginning of the school year. You can help provide my kids with a comfortable place to learn. I can promise you that it would be used day after day and year after year! Not to mention that we have a fantastic cleaning staff that would help prolong the lifespan of rug!
