My students need a rug to sit comfortably during Writer's Workshop gathering time to listen to my mini-lessons more attentively.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"There is no good writing, only good rewriting." ~Justice Brandeis
I love to share this quote with my students during their Writer's Workshop. Students learn to do great rewriting during this time when, with my guidance, they express their opinions, share information, or tell great stories.
Students at my school are inquisitive and outgoing.
There is never a dull moment in the classrooms. You can see young minds at work as students jot down ideas and share them with me and their partners. Our school is poorly funded, and each year we have a smaller budget to work with than the year before. By the end of the year, I have to buy basics like copy paper and pencils because we have run out of our school supply money.
My Project
My students need a rug. Students will use the rug mainly during their Writer's Workshop time as a gathering space. The idea is that students create a community of writers when they have a space to work cohesively. I teach fourth grade and most people assume by then students no longer want to sit on the rug. Yet, if done in short amounts of time, students can benefit from the close proximity to the teacher, and they are more actively engaged than if they are sitting at their seats all day. Students will share ideas from each other at this gathering space, and they will learn from examples in my writing skills and strategies to improve their own.
With your help, my students will be able to have a gathering space where they can listen to each other's ideas and my mini-lessons.
Without the rug, students will be sitting on a bare floor because our school does not have the budget for a rug.
