This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A new carpet in our classroom will provide a clean and comfortable learning space for whole group instruction in our classroom.
The majority of our learning takes place on our carpet in kindergarten.
Our current carpet is quite old, with deeply set in stains, and frayed edges that can, at times, be hazardous. In order to have enjoyable carpet time, we desperately need a new carpet!!
My adorable kindergarteners are full of life and curiosity. Nothing excites them more than an engaging story, science experiment, or interactive math and phonics activities. All of these events happen on the carpet. Close up and personal learning time. A new carpet would ensure that each student has his/her own personal, and clean, "thinking spot." Our school receives Title I funding, which means that most of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Their own personal spot on the carpet for learning is important to them. They really do have so much pride in everything they do.
With many efforts to make this carpet last, it really is time for these students to have a bright, clean personal spot for learning.
My Project
Colorful rows provide a bright and cheery atmosphere - very important for students to feel at home. 30 spaces will provide each student with his/her own personal space - very important for students to feel safe and proud. Given the devastating budget cuts that have taken place in the last several years, a new carpet has not been something that has been considered high on the priority list. When students spend approximately half of their day on the carpet - because this is where they do most of their learning in kindergarten, we (the students and myself) consider it to be high priority. On a basic level, it would be a clean place to sit, think, engage, and be proud of our classroom, not to mention safe without frayed edges to trip over.
Every day when we gather on our new carpet that you helped to provide, we will be proud, engaged in our learning, safe from harm, and most of all, extremely grateful to every donor.
