My students need nonfiction magazines to assist in research projects, individual writing opportunities and the ability to have hands-on internet access to complete grade level tasks.

My Students

My students are in a Title 1 School and most from low income families or one parent homes. This class is full of characteristics including comedians, "Chatty Cathy's", and tenderhearted students.

I have a differentiated class when it comes to their learning abilities.

Most of my students are goal driven and want so badly to please their teacher. They love group projects and working together on reports, but also enjoy the individual opportunities to write and research certain topics.

Because most of my students are so needy, it has been enriching to watch them grow together as individuals emotionally and mentally in the classroom. My desire is to give them everything they need to help them with their learning and to be successful.

My Project

Magazines, such as Scholastic, in the classroom will allow the students to research their individualized report. The internet access that is included will allow them to further their knowledge because of the differentiated learning.

Writing is very important with the 4th grade FSA Writing Standards and both of these magazines open the opportunities to focus on opinion and informative subjects.

It also gives me, as the teacher, another source of assessing the students in their abilities with writing.

Another way that they will facilitate these magazines are in daily ELA stations. Students choose the magazine and proceed to read the articles and show their comprehension by answering questions at the end of the passages.
