Our school serves 450+ students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Middle school is a time of great change, which means lots of opportunities for personal growth and learning! Students have access to a variety of extracurricular activities, as well as academic and intervention opportunities during the day.
We are keeping things strong on our side of town!
Our staff is focused on student needs, from academic to social to emotional. We have an amazing system of supports in place for our students in need, as well as incentives for students with good grades and good attendance.
My Project
Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are requesting shorter reading formats, such as magazines and comics. These help struggling readers access and engage with text!
Our library budget is tight - we buy books and supplies without much wiggle room.
Funding our magazine orders would help our students! In the past, our magazines have been used solely in the library. If funded, I will circulate individual issues of magazines to students. I will used my library budget to buy processing supplies, such as covers, to keep the magazines in good shape for readers.
Magazines are a great means of transitioning students from graphic novels or picture books to informational text, due to the heavy use of photos and graphics. These would help our low interest readers!
