Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hauke High School is our district's Academic Alternative School. At-risk students come to Hauke to get their schooling back on track and push towards graduation. Our motto is "Begin with the End in Mind" and that is exactly what we do. Students can take online classes, on top of their in-class classes to catch up on years they've failed or did not complete. Our population is almost 60% economically disadvantaged.

These are not behavior students, they simply are students who life has not gone as planned and they need an environment where they can get back on track and reach the goal of graduation.

We are an extremely small campus, averaging around 150 students in 8th through 12th grade, and with a small school comes a small budget for the library. These students have been through a lot and I want to get them all that they deserve in a school library and computer lab!

My Project

Hauke students have very busy lives outside of school, whether it be working, taking care of their own children or siblings, or taking classes at our local Community College. They often do not have extra time to sit down and read a novel. We need to give them other options for quick reading.

Magazines are the perfect way to get the students reading!

Students eat breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, so it would be great if they could also pick up a magazine and read while they eat. Magazine racks would give them access to magazines while they eat!
