Help me give my students Scope, a multi-genre ELA magazine that inspires and empowers middle-school students through fascinating, authentic stories written just for them.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 8th grade English/Language Arts in Columbia, SC. Many of my students come from households that fall below the national poverty line when it comes to income. They do not have access to what many would consider to be normal everyday items or accessibility to those things; until they come to school. They expect me to "WOW" them so I try not to let them down.
As a result, I try to make sure that I can show them as much of the world as possible through through print and virtual reality.
My students love being able to see what and make connections to events that are happening around them and all around the world. They would spend an entire class period discussing their thoughts as it relates to other cultures and ideas.
My Project
Scope is the multi-genre ELA magazine that inspires and empowers middle-school students through fascinating, authentic stories written just for them. We give teachers all the tools they need to transform our unique stories into unforgettable learning journeys that build reading, writing and thinking skills.
Every issue opens the doors of curiosity and fosters a lifelong love of reading and learning.
And Scope is so much more than a magazine. Subscriptions include a digital library of hundreds of texts, videos, learning games and skills activities that can be used anytime, anywhere and on any device.
