It is so hard to believe that this school year is quickly coming to a close. My little first graders have grown so much this year! We've grown in behavior, kindness, compassion, and most importantly, academics. However, I don't want their learning to stop just because school is out for the summer.
In addition to the summer Brain Quest book, I would like to give each of my wonderful students an easy reader, coloring books with crayons, snacks, candy, a drawstring bag, a fidget toy, and outside play with sidewalk chalk and slime.
Although I want my kiddos to keep learning this summer and be well prepared for second grade, I also want them to have a wonderful (much needed and deserved) break from school. If I can provide them with some of their favorite treats, as well as some of their favorite things to do, maybe it will help them to stay motivated to keep working this summer while still having fun. I think that by having the slime and sidewalk chalk, they can use their creativity and keep their imaginations running. Families can also come together and help their students practice math facts and sight words outside with the chalk as well. The easy reader can be used at bedtime each evening to keep building their fluency and accuracy. Their favorite snacks and candy always make things more fun! The drawstring bag will be perfect to help bring their end of school year gift together and easily take it all home for the summer.
