My students need Magformers kits, Squishy Circuits Deluxe Kit, & an Electricity and Magnetism relationship kit, to facilitate learning about forces and interactions in a creative way, by creating our very own insects!
My third-grade students are an amazing group of children. I know that my classroom is their second home, and where they spend the majority of their time, so I want to make sure that they have the best learning environment possible.
My students are caring, compassionate, smart children, who deserve to have all the newest, and research-based, strategies used in their classroom.
My students show up to school every day with a smile on their faces and ready to learn. They deserve the very best, the best that I can provide them. This is my seventh year teaching, and I want to provide my students with resources that will aid in a successful third grade year and an inspiring educational journey.
My Project
After our unit on Insect Life Cycles, our class will start our Forces & Interactions unit. Our focus standard for this unit is: Plan and conduct investigations to determine the cause and effect relationship of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other.
What a more engaging hands-on approach to tie together magnetic/electric interactions, insects, and STEM!
Students will be challenged to create their own insect...a "Frank-Insect", as they are now Mad Entomologists following the Engineering Design Process! Students will use the requested lab coats and safety glasses to transform into Mad Entomologists! The Magformers Deluxe Super Brain Set, Magnets in Motion, & Magnets in Motion Accessory Set will be the basic building blocks of life for each Frank-Insect. Students will use the magnetic blocks to explore and research different magnetic interactions and how the orientation of magnets affects the direction of the magnetic force, all while creating a new insect species! The Squishy Circuits Deluxe Kit will give my Mad Entomologists another medium to create interesting insects. Students will explore electrical circuits using play dough, LED lights, and motors. These materials will allow students to create Frank-Insects all while determining the cause and effect relationships of electric interactions.
Exposing children to authentic hands-on experiences that involve the world around them is a once in a lifetime opportunity. STEM immerses students into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications and with your support, Mad Entomologists can make Frank-Insects come to life!
