Mad About Reading! (Part 2)

Help me give my students fun, engaging, and powerful reading center activities that give them practice in phonemic awareness and phonics skills.

My Project

At this time of the school year, many of my second graders still need practice with their foundational reading skills, namely in phonemic awareness and phonics. The Common Core standard, "Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words" (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.2.3.A) is essential for readers of all ages to learn, but it can be rather dull!

I would greatly appreciate resources from TPT for my students to make foundational practice more fun, and hopefully, make learning stick.

Some of the specific items I would like to purchase include CVC pattern block task cards, a package (i.e., bundle) of fluency centers, a bundle of phonics centers, a set of phonics word lists that would help me with planning my small group lessons, and a set of dictation sheets with decodable sentences that align with the science of reading. I also would like to refresh some of the materials I have been using for multi-sensory language learning, including colored reading highlighting strips, timers for fluency practice, and playdough for forming spelling words.

The activities I plan to offer for these literacy centers would align with the science of reading, and therefore take into thoughtful consideration the way children's brains learn to read, as guided by current scientific research.
