This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My seventh-grade students—or as I refer to them as "my kids"—are funny, curious, and insightful leaders. Something happens or someone says something daily that truly brings joy into the room. I cannot imagine a better place to be a learner...and I am talking about me! They teach me something new all the time!

I believe that "Readers are leaders”; therefore, I want to continue to connect each student with a book that ignites their passion for reading!

Physically opening a book, turning the page, smelling ink on paper, and being transported to another place and time...that is a human experience that no tech or tablet can replace. While some kids are already avid readers when they walk in the door, my goal is for every child to become one. After last year’s DC addition to the classroom library, I know that we are on the right path! I can't wait to see them discuss, analyze, and ponder the big ideas (and details that develop them) and watch their fire for reading ignite!

My Project

While my district is currently “in school” and full speed ahead, there are still some bumps—craters—in the road. I am teaching a room full of students but also have a few online. Having both a physical and digital magazine will help kids who aren’t able to attend class because of Covid and/or they are out on a 10-day quarantine. I’ve used these magazines in past years and both are excellent in quality, timeliness, and high interest for kids. They expose students to concepts and content that I would struggle to gather in any other way. I hope you can help me to help them.
