This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fourth-grade students live in a small, urban community in Los Angeles. The majority come from households that have struggled to get through distance learning. Most do not have personal devices at home or internet service. They don't all have someone at home to help them when there are problems with technology.
We need your help so that our class can access their learning without technological problems interfering because of the teacher's technology.
Our school year ended, but some of my students wanted to continue with lessons throughout the summer. I also started teaching Summer School to 25 students. So, we are currently continuing with distance learning! They have persevered throughout the school year with a smile and continue to do so by performing to the best of their ability. They refuse to give up!
My Project
I don't think any educator ever imagined to be teaching remotely from home. However, this pandemic has not kept our students from moving forward in their academics. They have come across many obstacles such as not having a personal device at home or not having internet service. Many of my students do not have someone to help them at home when there are technical issues. One issue that has made it difficult to teach is having a second-generation MacBook.
Having a newer generation MacBook Pro will make it easier to teach from because it will provide consistency in teaching a full lesson.
Currently, my MacBook freezes which cause me to have to dismiss students from our remote lesson. Too often it would not get out of a frozen state and we had to wait a couple of hours to try again. A new MacBook Pro would allow me to focus and deliver an entire lesson without interruption. My students' learning won't have to stop because of an outdated and unreliable device. I will be able to communicate with my students and their parents. In addition, I will create lessons and have the confidence in my device that my students will get the entire lesson during a scheduled session. Their learning will not be interrupted and should not be interrupted. More than ever before, our students need consistency and routines. My lessons need to be delivered on a daily basis and as scheduled. My students deserve the best I can provide them with so that they can meet their college and career goals. A new MacBook Pro will allow just that!
