MacBook for Aspiring Dance-makers and Agents of Social Change

Help me give my students a Mac laptop for research, choreographic documentation, and video-making.

This project is fully funded

My Students

When my students come to dance class, they are full of energy, creativity, and an enthusiastic readiness to dance. All my students are provided an equitable opportunity to be successful learners as they collaborate with others and discover their artistic voices while engaging in dance studies that encourage them to experiment with elements of Dance, progress through the choreographic process, and share their work through performance.

I teach dance and choreography to various Title I elementary schools in the inner-city areas of Central and Northeast Los Angeles.

If it weren't for this program, most students in the areas that I serve would not be able to afford a quality dance education. I am honored to be in the presence of my students every day and am constantly challenged to make dance relevant and meaningful to them in their everyday lives.

My Project

Our current laptop is out of commission so we will be needing a MacBook laptop that will serve many purposes in my student-centered Dance classroom that's drive by research, cultural-historical awareness, the creative process, and Arts Education as a means of community service.

First, the laptop will be used by students as a research tool make relevant connections from our current community to the historical, cultural, and technical significance of specific dance companies, performances, and dance traditions from around the world.

Secondly, the MacBook has features that make dance documentation and video-making highly accessible to all. These recordings will enable students to view and revise their work, apply vocabulary learned to critique and provide feedback to peers, and showcase a final piece of choreography that implements videography techniques and a Dance activism theme. Students can work on 21st century skills and make dance projects shareable to the wider school community as agents of social change.

Lastly, this laptop will be used by me to access and create new learning resources (handouts, posters, dance videos) that will support learning for all my students, communicate with the school community I serve via email and online learning platforms, and attend virtual trainings for professional development with emphasis on using arts education as a means for social change and community service.
