This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every morning we start the day with a chant: "All set?," Teacher says. Students reply, "You bet!" I would like to provide my enthusiastic second graders with a MacBook Air for STEM projects throughout this school year.
I teach in a primarily immigrant and working class neighborhood in Los Angeles.
My students come from supportive families who are involved and concerned. Some of my students are above grade level, some are on grade level, and some are struggling readers. Even with all this diversity, my second graders have one thing in common: they all love learning!
When my students have completed a unit of study in language arts, science, social studies, or even math, they will be able to create short movie presentations in iMovie, which comes with the computer. Students can use the built-in webcam to take pictures of themselves for their projects.
Since the computer is portable, the students will be able to take it to their desks, making group work easier. Also, by connecting the laptop to the LCD projector that we already have in the class, I will be able to display lessons, student work, demonstrations, PowerPoint presentations, and other projects for the whole class to see.
With your support my second graders will be able create meaningful projects that demonstrate what they have learned in our various units of study.
You will be empowering my students to utilize cutting edge 21st century technology, which the overwhelming majority can not access at home. Thank you.
