I am requesting a MacBook Air for professional development to participate in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS) through NovoEd in order to plan effective, interactive lessons for English learners on the new Common Core standards.
I teach at a Title I school in the Los Angeles area with a significant population of English learners.
Our school is made up of 75% free or reduced rate lunch recipients. The MacBook Air would greatly enhance professional development and planning lessons for our students with a focus on the Common Core and English learners. Our students are eager to learn. The Common Core State Standards push our students to achieve at a higher level. The skills they are required to master in English Language Arts are supported by a strong English Language Development program. I look forward to learning strategies to help support our English learners to access the Common Core in all subject areas.
My Project
I will use my MacBook Air for professional development through online NovoEd courses in conjunction with Stanford's education department. Topics include constructive classroom conversations and understanding language for English learners. The MacBook Air will allow me to access resources to meet the needs of our students.
This project will improve my instruction by providing knowledge in the form of online educational technology to help with my goal to reach more students effectively.
I will be able to participate in high-quality professional development to further my learning of practices that promote student interactions in meaningful ways and knowledge of how English works.
