Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All of my 150 students are special, because each of them brings joy to my classroom in their own unique way. My kids love coming to class and enjoy learning Spanish. These kids are kind hearted and eager to learn more about their culture.

I love teaching them, because they exceed my expectations on a daily basis.

They enjoy learning new things everyday, and they love to participate in class.

Not all of my students live in a two parent household, where they receive guidance and help with their homework, so I make myself available to the parents and the students to help them in any way I can. I teach them to value their culture and be proud of who they are and where they come from. I also help them understand that they don't have to be victims of their circumstances, and that no matter where they come from, they all have the opportunity to succeed if they put their mind to it. I teach them to improve their Spanish, so that they can be better individuals in the future and have greater opportunities.

My Project

My students come from very diverse backgrounds. I have students from Africa, Europe, Asia, India, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Peru to just name a few. I have global citizens in my classroom, and I want to prepare them to be global scholars in math and science. Many of my students want to go on and become doctors, engineers, architects, and scientists, which is why I stress that being bilingual and learning Spanish will be a great benefit to them, especially in the math and sciences field.

I want to educate them in using applied sciences for their future education and their jobs.

I explain to them the importance of technology in the math and science fields, and that colleges now a days use "blackboard" to upload assignments, many jobs now do Skype interviews, and are now very technology centered. I want my students to be career ready in math and sciences for their future college careers and life.

I want my middle school students to unlock their creativity in applied sciences. They currently use my personal MacBook in the classroom, because it is much easier for them. By using the new classroom MacBook, I want them to record and edit themselves making presentations, both in English and in Spanish, and to record and edit interviews during our weekly classroom news, using the applications: Final Cut Pro, Keynote, iTalk recorder, QuickTime player. With this applied science, I want my students to innovate and create their own apps. I want them to unlock their creativity in science and math, and use the applications to improve their learning in the classroom. I want to make sure that, with applied sciences, my 21st century scholars are prepared for their career in the 21st century job field in technology, math and science.
