Mac-imize Our Literacy Learning

Help me give my students a computer for completing classroom writing projects and bookmaking; learning vocabulary through video and presentations, and watching ebooks supported by our classroom curriculum.

My Project

Our 3 year olds blossom with the educational and enrichment opportunities being offered to them, which helps them to build their background knowledge and exposes them to things they otherwise wouldn't be exposed to. For all of them, school is where they have opportunities to build their academic and social foundations that will set them up for success for the rest of their lives. Our PK students use "Creative Curriculum" and desperately need access to a classroom computer. The curriculum calls for students to complete desktop publishing activities, as well as to create their own books through pictures and dictating sentences. Without us having a classroom computer it hinders a student's ability to use their creativity in becoming young writers and expressing their ideas though language.

With this computer we would be able to give this year's students, and students for many years to come the opportunity to become young writers and put their thoughts and ideas down in print.

With being able to find their own pictures, students will be able to independently share these stories without having to rely on their hand-drawn pictures to communicate them. We will also use the computer together with our classroom SMARTBoard to teach and reinforce theme-related vocabulary through video and PowerPoint presentations. Students will also have access to the computer in our classroom library where they will be able to listen to and watch eBooks that come with our curriculum.

As an added bonus, I will be able to use the computer to create specific pictures and language supports for my students who are English Language Learners. Together, the students and I can create visuals that will support their navigation through the classroom while using the built-in translator to translate what students are saying into English for me to better understand them.
