My 8th grade students will soon be starting literature circles, which are similar to a traditional book club. Unfortunately, we do not have enough copies of high-interest novels they want to read to make this happen.
With these new books, my students will learn to have rich conversations about books cultivating a love of reading many of them have yet to experience.
Currently, at least 75% of my students are reading below grade level. Once students' motivation to read is increased, that higher interest in reading will undoubtedly lead to an increase in their reading level as well.
