My Students
My students are young men and young ladies who live in the "most dangerous" city in the US as well as being labeled one of the "highest poverty rates." They struggle daily in many ways to make it to school, but once they arrive they are ready to go. We have breakfast together and then we are off on our learning adventure for the day. My students come to school to learn. They have plans for college, and to reach those goals we push every day to overcome the struggles they face.
My Project
Our students are inside for recess on rainy days and now with the weather changing during those cold winter afternoons. I want to provide students at our school an opportunity to turn off technology and play together. Battleship, Jenga, Uno, checkers, Connect 4, and mancala games are some of the students' favorites, so lunch will be so much fun.
Don't you remember playing board games with your family or friends?
I do and it was a blast! Our students play on technology and don't have the games to play together. So during those cold or rainy days I would love for our school to play board games and have competitions with the games to include sportsmanship. I want technology turned off and old-fashion fun to happen and being stuck inside during recess is a perfect opportunity for our students to do just that!
