This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students have heard that they shouldn't do drugs. Unfortunately, peer pressure and stress influence some kids to use substances that are harmful to their health and negatively impact their learning.

Let's give our students an alternative to harmful drugs, and celebrate healthy lifestyle choices!

Our lunch celebration will include music, games (cornhole and basketball) and fun giveaways, such as candy and drug-free bracelets. Students will sign a drug free pledge that includes a space to reflect on healthy activities. Students will be asked to list safe activities they choose when they are hanging out with friends, or when they feel bored, sad, scared, or stressed. These pledges will be used as raffle tickets for prizes such as: a soccer ball, a sketch pad and markers, and two decks of Uno. After the raffle, the pledges will be displayed on a banner.

As students participate in this event, they will be encouraged to come to the counseling office if there is something bothering them so that we can guide them to choose helpful coping strategies over harmful ones!
