My Project
In my after school STEAM Club, we try to give the students opportunities to learn about other cultures besides our own and build on the “A” in STEAM for some artistic skills. With the Lunar New Year around the corner, what is a better way for students to learn about Chinese culture than through arts and calligraphy.
Students will be practicing writing in calligraphy using ink and rice paper, then they will draw a dragon, which is the Chinese Zodiac animal of 2024, and use watercolors to paint their dragons in the tradition of the Chinese using watercolors.
Students will also be using chopsticks to enjoy some delicious Chinese food when it is available for lunch during this time. Students can keep the chopsticks to use them at home.
Students will be so exciting to participate in Chinese calligraphy and chopsticks activities to learn about Chinese culture during Lunar New Year!
