Lunar New Year Classroom Tradition in EL classroom

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year marks the second consecutive Lunar New Year celebration in my sixth and seventh grade ESOL classroom. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching my students learn about this important holiday, from receiving gifts, to celebrating with a special Panda Express meal! It's been fascinating to see how much they remember from last year's festivities.
Lunar New Year is also a special occasion for me as it's one of the few times I decorate my classroom, which is always a highlight for my students.
This year, we're excited to incorporate a reusable photo backdrop and explore new ways to celebrate the Year of the Snake. We'll read a children's book to introduce the holiday's traditions to the students and will also include fun activities like fortune scratchers, sharing fortune cookies, and assembling a Chinese Lunar New Year-themed Lego set as engaging incentives.
