Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At my school, the staff believes that children are learners. They learn at different paces and in different ways, so instructional practices will reflect this. Since we believe that children learn best in a positive environment, the instructional setting will feature structured classrooms that are safe places for children to express themselves, show respect and be respected.
When students leave their grade level each year, they will successfully have taken full advantage of all learning opportunities.
We work at building prior knowledge, growing emotional and intellectual development, encouraging school and home cooperation, and providing sound instruction in the required standards. Students will increase their capacity to be accountable for their own actions and their own learning.
Children want to develop academic, artistic and social skills. We intend to give them opportunities to explore, investigate, probe and create within the context of structure in our classroom learning centers.
My Project
My students are very thirsty to put their new reading skills to use this year. I plan on using the different lighting tools to help my students experience reading in different and exciting ways. The new materials will show my students that there are different ways to read at school and then transfer that new knowledge to their reading at home by using reading lights, flashlights, mini lights, and reading guides.
A study of K-12 student reading habits showed that students who read 15 minutes or more per day make
accelerated reading gains.
By providing a relaxing and unique reading environment for my students, the use of book lights, flashlights, mini lights and reading guides will help my students become fluent readers and enhance their love of reading that they will then be able to take home.
