This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Resources don't have to be the flashiest or most expensive to get the greatest rate of return- sometimes the best tools are the basics!
This fall I am switching from teaching 7th and 8th grade Language Arts to teaching 6th grade Language Arts.
This will be my students' first year in a middle school and will set the tone for the rest of their middle school experience. And we want that experience to be great by providing engaging supplies for effective learning!
I teach in a low-income school where 95% of students are on free or reduced price lunch. When classrooms are lacking in paper or pencils, students get frustrated. The classroom should not be a daily reminder of what kids lack. It should be a place where students are excited to learn and motivated to succeed!
My Project
The resources I am requesting are commonplace office items- highlighters, paper, pencils, glue, and more. When used creatively in a classroom, they make for a hands-on educational experience! The different colors of highlighters work perfectly for color-coding assignments. The post-its, glue, and scissors give kids a chance to interact with lesson materials. Students aren't just copying notes, they are engaging visual, auditory, and kinesthetic senses to make lasting understandings!
Students learn in all different ways, and lesson materials need to be engaging to capture the attention of all different types of learners.
I've watched students who struggled with assignments have the lightbulb click on once they figure out how to color-code or diagram important information. The supplies in this project will help many students learn by providing simple, engaging ways to interact with lessons.
