This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a high school counselor serving over four hundred students (seventeen hundred total on campus) in a rural, economically disadvantaged district, I wear many hats each day; academic advisor, mental health advocate, crisis responder, career guide, and often, a source of hope. The challenges our students face are immense: generational poverty (we are a Title Nine School with one hundred percent free or reduced price lunch program enrollment), limited access to healthcare and technology, food insecurity, and a lack of exposure to post-secondary opportunities. Yet, in the midst of these hardships, I see resilience, and a yearning for more.

Every day I meet students with dreams of becoming nurses, engineers, and teachers who simply need the tools and encouragement to believe in those dreams.

However, the lack of resources significantly hinders my ability to support them fully. Our school has limited mental health professionals, outdated college and career readiness materials, and minimal funding for field trips, enrichment programs, or test prep resources.

The donations (MacBook, iPad, speaker system) will go to provide virtual college tours, career prep presentations. With additional support from your donations, we will be able to give access to the students critical resources: social-emotional learning curricula, trauma-informed counseling, SAT/ACT preparation, college application assistance, and exposure to pathways they may have never imagined for themselves. All of these things require proper technology from myself that we do not have.

My request for resources is not just about enhancing a program; it is about transforming lives. In our area, education is not taken for granted; it is a lifeline. The students I serve are capable of greatness when given even a chance. I am committed to being their advocate and bridge to a brighter future. With your support, I can do more than help them survive.
