We are a class of 24 fourth-graders full of knowledge, laughter, fun, and compassion! Pushing each other to be our best, yet realizing mistakes are made and learning from them is most important. We pride ourselves on connecting with one another while being responsible 'family' members in our class and school. Our school is an extended family to everyone that walks in the door. Although, we (as a class) have come up with creative options and ways to try to be successful while learning, for many students these options are not enough. Research shows students need to be engaged and motivated throughout the day to get the most out of learning.
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because of the new high-interest material they can choose from to read. From graphic novels and nonfiction books to books about diversity and community, these will be books that won't go back on the shelves once the word gets out how great they are!
Being able to help students find a love of learning, especially for reading, is always a highlight of the school year.
I love when during independent reading time students say "just five more minutes." Collective learning, and as individuals, makes our bond grow together. When students find something they love and it fuels their learning, it makes everything worthwhile for me a teacher. Providing a variety of books to enhance that learning is the aim of this project.
