This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are kids who lack motivation and inspiration to believe they can achieve great things in life. I’m currently teaching 4 reading intervention classes in which 7 and 8th grade students are reading below grade level. The majority have a deficit of at at least 3 years. My students hate to read because they do not believe they can do it well. Hence, my year long goal is to get them to enjoy reading and in many cases LOVE to read!
My Project
Students in my class will benefit from reading a book that will engage them and get them reading. I have discovered through personal experience the power a good book can make in assisting with improving a student’s motivation to read. Consequently, my goal with these materials is to provide my students the experience of enjoying reading a book and transferring the desire to read to their independent reading. Currently, some of my students are lacking motivation in reading because they find it boring or uninteresting. However, I know that through guidance and modeling, I can enlighten their views on reading.
