Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second year classroom teacher with 20 bilingual students who are creative, spontaneous, thoughtful, caring, amiable, ambitious, and most importantly eager to learn! Twelve out of my twenty students are first year students in the United States and arrived here with no English.

My students came from Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Colombia.

They have not had many opportunities to be part of real life experiences due to the fact that they come from low-income/high poverty backgrounds. In our school we provide free breakfast, lunch, and snack daily to all students because many times these are the only meals they are guaranteed.

Living in this district does not impede my students from learning and I work hard to create and maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment. I was also an ESL student growing up and I pride myself in helping my students prepare for the years to come and college!

My Project

My students are anxious to learn, but being that most of my students are not yet able to read text in English, they will benefit from this listening station! This will excite them to learn English as they are able to interact with the stories. My students are always grateful and I know that by adding this fun station to our class they will enjoy coming to school even more.

Students will be able to use pictures and context clues to comprehend the stories and this way learn to love the reading process in English!

Engaging students and making learning fun is the best way to reach out! This will be a great addition to our classroom as we will finally complete our listening station!
