This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you know that just hearing fluent reading can improve your own reading? My students need books and CDs to complete our listening center. A listening center builds reading fluency and a love of reading.

I teach in a low income school in California.

The majority of students come to school speaking a language other than English and need a lot of support as they are learning a new language and reading skills. One of the favorite times in our classroom is when I read to them each day. A listening center that contained interesting, grade level stories would allow them to continue to enjoy stories throughout the day.

My Project

The listening center set I have requested includes a wide variety of books. Some are classic stories, like The Mouse and the Motorcycle and others are newer favorites, like It's Fair Day, Amber Brown. These stories will give the students a chance to hear more stories and be exposed to more authors.

You will be putting stories in the hearts of students and helping them love reading. Students will be able to hear fluent reading, read along and build their own skills.
