My Students

I just had the opportunity to take over a fourth grade class half-way through the school year. This is my first teaching position and I'm excited to set up my room and make it a welcoming place. I have a wonderful group of diverse learners. They are always eager and excited to begin our days.

I have 19 students in my homeroom class.

They work at a variety of levels in all subjects. No matter where they are, they are willing to learn. I am truly enjoying getting to know each one and helping them see just how much fun school can be. This is a Title 1 school, which means that many of my students have obstacles outside of school. These sometimes hinder their learning. I want to make sure that they finish this year absolutely loving school. I greet them every day with a smile and a hug at the door. I make sure they know that I expect all of them to try hard on everything we do. It's amazing how much they have changed in only one month!

My Project

My students look forward to quiet reading time on the carpet. Unfortunately, being a new teacher, I do not have a large library of books on their level. The resources I have requested would provide texts at four different levels. They would challenge some of my students. I was fortunate enough to have some lower level books donated that can support some of my struggling readers, but I currently only have a few advanced texts. I also plan to allow my students to check these books out to enjoy at home. I share with them how I enjoy reading at my house, and I want them to realize how much pleasure they can get from choosing to read independently.
