This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 4-5 years old, they have endless energy and enthusiasm for learning. The school is a neighborhood school, so the students live in the urban neighborhood. Many students walk to school and have siblings in older grades.
Many of the students are growing up in poverty with limited resources at home, my goal is to do my best to provide rich environment and experience at school.
I want to give the children every tool they are going to need to be successful in the coming years.
My Project
We need to upgrade our classroom library and make it more useful. Right now almost all of our books are in milk crates, which make it very difficult to find them and use them. Book bins would not only make the space nicer to look at, it would also help us find books when we need them.
Not only do we want to organize the books we have, we also want to add some fun with the finger puppets.
My students love to retell stories and rhymes, the finger puppets are a great tool to help with that.
Lastly, we need a place to sit! Our beans bags were losing their stuffing and had to go, the adorable chairs would make great replacements!
