Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Currently, our students are doing a novel study on The Outsiders, the novel by S.E. Hinton. Students are engaging in long-form reading and analyzing the text through various activities and projects based on the book. We have a higher number of EL students and I want to provide them a physical copy of the book in Spanish so they can engage fully. Currently, I have been able to provide them with a digital PDF copy of the textbook but I have found it is easier for students to get fatigued staring at the screen and reading time does not truly feel like reading time as they scroll through the PDF to find where they last left off.

Nothing can replace the feeling of a good book in their hands to truly embrace the joys of reading.

I hope that in acquiring these books, I can open up the discussion more and engage my students more with materials that are more similar to what their friends who are reading in English have.
