Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
During the 2015-16 school year I will be teaching a multiage class of 1-2 graders. I would like for students to have their own poetry and writing journals, and for 2nd graders to have a journal where they can practice reading comprehension strategies.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds.
Some of my students will be first graders and some will be second graders. I would like for them to keep both a poetry and writing journal, and the second graders could keep one for a comprehension strategy called Close Reading.
My Project
My students need 80 various journals for poetry, writing, and close reading comprehension. Journals will be used daily. In the Poetry Journals, students will keep poems that we read together in class and write their own poetry. In the Writing Journal, they will write a few times a week about different topics. In the Comprehension Journal, students will show evidence about what they are reading.
My students need good quality journals which will enhance their learning in reading and writing.
While I have used regular spiral notebooks at times in the past, I feel that these students need specific journals which address skills and standards students are working on (ie writing, poetry, comprehension).
