Help me give my students a Preschool sized LED Light table to experiment with light in their play using a variety of tools such as transparent counting, building, literacy manipulative toys, and x-rays.
The children this project directly benefits are 3-5 years of age and are part of the H.T. Preschool Program. Our preschool is a diverse community of families from many ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. The project is also accessible to the surrounding neighborhood and community. Our children love a "hands-on" learning approach, to interact with their environment.
Our preschool students focus on learning through play, exploration, child centered, experiential, and developmentally appropriate practices in our classroom.
The preschool team has been proactive in meeting and exceeding the Colorado Shines initiative for excellent preschool programs which looks at all aspects of service and materials offered.
This DonorsChoose.org project will help us to meet these requirements and reflect our high quality preschool program. The project will maintain meeting the needs of our class and community as well as reaching our goals towards an exemplary rating in health and care of the young in our program.
A Preschool sized LED Light table is the perfect addition to our science center in our classroom. We already have a variety of materials to investigate using a light table such as clear pattern blocks, letters, building toys, counting manipulatives, and x-rays. A light table can be used to enhance literacy, math, colors, social and emotional aspects, and writing. Experimenting with the soft glow of light gives us extended interest and attention spans. The light table can be used with arts and crafts, academic activities and and open ended exploration. A light table encourages kids to engage in learning experiences without even realizing they are doing it!
