Help me give my students opportunities to increase their knowledge of kindergarten skills while learning from home. The hands-on materials selected will give my students and their families activities to manipulate while engaging with one another.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Kindergarten students, some of whom I haven't had the chance to meet face-to-face due to the Covid pandemic, reside in a poverty stricken area where out of school learning opportunities and exposure to books and enrichment activities are limited. Many of my students face challenges beyond their control and lack many necessities. School is their safe place. My goal each day is to make sure my students leave me feeling loved and appreciated and love learning as much as I do.
Our school is a Pre-K-8 Title I school.
100% of our students qualify for free lunch. Although my students face many economic challenges, they are always excited about school, enthusiastic, and ready to learn! Every school day is a new learning experience for them.
My Project
Parents have become teachers full-time due to the Covid pandemic. There are special challenges that my students and their families are facing during this time. The materials I selected will provide supplemental resources to my families that will allow them to work with their children from home, in the areas of Phonics , Math, and Science. I also wanted my students to have an outlet to express their feelings through drawings so I included a journal for all of them. This pandemic has been really difficult on my little people.
My families are in need of resources and materials to help them help their children.
The materials selected are hands-on materials that increase engagement while improving their basic skills. My students deserve the highest quality education that can be given to them. Although we are not together in a traditional classroom setting at this time, I would like to provide them with activities and materials to bring a sense of normalcy back to their learning experience.
