Getting 23 young 5 year olds to sit and listen?! Sounds like an impossible task? It doesn't have to be with an amazing listening center. I want my kindergarten students to fall in love with not only reading stories, but listening to stories. It is amazing to see their faces ready to listen.
I teach kindergarten at a public school in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY.
My favorite moment of teaching these amazing students is watching their faces as they listen to their favorite stories. It is my favorite time of day because the students are all ears and engulfed in their stories. There should be more time in my day devoted to children listening to stories but unfortunately without the books and materials I am unable to provide my students with the listening center they deserve.
My Project
My plan is to set up an interactive and fun listening center where students can listen to, look at and respond to a variety of stories with this set of Read Along books and CDs. This will teach them important listening and reading skills that will make them successful as they advance. I want these students to be independent young learners and I believe in this listening center!
These materials will make such a difference in the lives of my students.
They may not have the opportunity to listen to many stories at home so I want to create that safe and welcoming environment in school where they can be free to just listen and enjoy.
