My Project

I am requesting a class set of a novel called, "Love That Dog". This book is about a boy who doesn't want to write poetry, and by the end he enjoys it. The book is written in poetry form, which is a writing style that is different from what my students are used to. I plan to teach them, by analyzing the poetry, how to discover new words, how to cite evidence, and how to use adjectives to describe characters and situations. In my experience, students tend to struggle the most with analyzing poetry, so I am hopeful that they will be successful using this book, since they may be able to relate to the main character in the book, who doesn't like or want to write poetry, but by the conclusion finds that he has a voice and likes to express it through poetry.
