it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, my students returned to the classroom after almost two years of learning at home due to COVID-19. This has been a time in which lessons of empathy and compassion have been especially critical. Reading the book "Love That Dog" with a small group of students, I have been very touched by how we have been able to have big discussions about feelings, loss, and memory. The book is written in free verse poetry form from the perspective of a young student dealing with grief. In this way, it has also given my students more access and exposure to the world of poetry and how they can use it to capture their own feelings.
Through your support, I hope to receive enough copies of this moving book so that I can read it with my whole class.
If given the opportunity to receive a whole class set, I can use this book for a deeper exploration of poetry and creative writing, alongside discussions about empathy and emotions.
I hope that having this class set can help me tackle writing with a more dedicated focus on social emotional learning and the inner worlds of my students. Thank you so much in advance for any support you can give!
