This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Who wouldn't prefer to experience science unfolding in front of their eyes rather than reading it from a textbook?
Overall, my students lack a general knowledge of science due to an over emphasis on tested only subject matter such as language arts and math.
These students are not born into the type of environment where the family has the means to supplement their child's learning with science activities at home or visits to the Science Center. Now with funded field trips becoming more and more scarce every year, I fear my students will never experience science hands on.
My Project
Imagine the look of awe as students witness the life cycle of a butterfly or the complexity within the ant colony - you can make this a reality by funding this project. I've also included a classroom microscope kit that can project their learning onto the wall to encourage classroom discussions. In addition, a variety of science theme bingo games to spur even more science knowledge.
Science is something to be experienced hands on and with over 50% of my students this year females, I want to ensure I'm doing my best to make a career in science an option for them.
