Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 23 students: six are second graders and the rest are third. And even though I have six second graders, I introduced chapter books to my whole class because all of my second graders are independent and highly motivated and I knew they were up for the challenge.
Since the beginning of the school year, I have continuously provided each of my students with a copy of the book we were reading, starting with easy chapter books and progressively increasing to more difficult chapter books.
However, under the current COVID-19 situation, my students do not have access to any books as many of them are from low-income households.
My Project
My students have been reading chapter books since the beginning of the school year. I started by providing each of my students with grade-level chapter books and progressively increased their reading levels. And during this time of remote learning, I have continuously provided them with reading materials, not only to enhance their reading comprehension but to provide them with the opportunity to develop their imagination.
However, many of my students are from low-income household so many have difficulty accessing the readings I post daily.
Many have poor internet or no internet at all. By providing each student with a book (specifically Holes by Louis Sachar), I am hoping everyone in my class will continue to read and not be limited because of this current situation.
