This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin. Hands-on activities are essential in early childhood setting, they they help lay the foundation for life-long learning.
My kindergarten class is composed of 18 amazingly creative, fun, energetic, and curious group of students.
They come to school eager to learn, explore and share their experiences. My school is a Title 1 campus. Most of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have little to no support at home. Many of them are eligible and receive free/reduced lunch. My Dual Language class is a diverse group of kids from a variety of backgrounds. My self contained class consists of 14 English Language Learners (ELL) and 4 Spanish Learners.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of resources and manipulatives including a storyteller writing box, a a set of sorting shapes cupcakes, magnetic numbers, shape sorting manipulatives for Math stations and Alpha Learning Locks and Letter Construction for Literacy stations.
The majority of my students lack oral language skills. The Storytelling Box would allow them to learn new vocabulary and practice speaking among their peers. This tool would help them become confident about sharing what they have learned.
In math my students are struggling with number ID and shape ID/attributes. The Cupcake Shapes and Magnetic Numbers would allow them the hands-on practice they need during small groups. They would be able to identify and order numbers as well as identify and describe shapes in a fun way.
During Guided Reading we are practicing letter identification and are learning how to make words. My students need Alphabet Mystery Box and Alphabet locks to help them with daily phonics practice in small group setting. My students are at different levels and these materials could help them no matter where they are academically.
These resources and manipulatives will provide my students with the hands-on tools most of them don't have at home.
Working with these resources will help them feel confident about learning and allow them to get the daily practice they need. My students enjoy learning and these materials will help get them excited about counting, identifying shapes and their attributes as well as the practice with phonics that second language learners need.
