This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My library is the heart of the school; students have described it as the living room of the school. The library is truly like the living room in your house - a comfortable place to complete your homework, curl up with a good book, or talk with friends.
My students are as diverse as the city of Boston, including English language learners from across the globe.
Some of them are homeless, others work after school every day to support their families. Some have gone through unspeakable traumas. Yet, every day, they come to school, because they know that our school is a safe place and that we want them to succeed.
My Project
I always want my students to know that the library is always there to support them, and it's not just about having books (though we have those too!) I began creating a small personal care area four years ago, and it has been very popular. Giving students agency over their needs helps them to concentrate better on their school work.
Especially this year, when we are returning to a still not normal school year, I want students to not have to stress over whether they have a pencil, or if they need a tissue pack.
