My Students

My classroom community is composed of 23 diverse, enthusiastic and creative kindergarten students. Our school is a dual immersion school. The majority of my students are learning Spanish through the kindergarten curriculum. A small percentage of my students are Spanish speakers. They still need to learn to read and write in Spanish, and develop their academic language. My students also come from different economic backgrounds. They also bring to our classroom their different cultural experiences. My students enjoy learning a new language and listening to picture books in Spanish.

My Project

My students love our story time together and enjoy browsing through books on a daily basis. In order to support their love of reading, my students need appropriate books that will allow them to gain a greater love for books and necessary early literacy skills to help foster their ability to learn to read. For the first time, my students will be able to check out age appropriate books to enjoy, interact with on their own, and develop essential skills which will prepare them for successful learning of the Spanish language. They will also be able to read about different topics at their current reading level.
