My students are learning to develop a love for reading and to build their identity as a reader, student, and person. They are developing critical skills they will need for the rest of their lives. Being from a small town, sometimes it is hard for them to see the opportunities to do these things, especially without the right tools. It is my job to make sure they have those tools and opportunities and to grow and develop in and out of the classroom.
My Project
These books will help develop my classroom library. In order to meet the needs and interests of all of my students, I need a variety of books. These books will help foster a love of reading with my students and will provide them with opportunities to read that they might not get otherwise. While I have a classroom library, it is outdated; there is hardly any current young adult literature in it. With an updated library, reading will be fun for kids, and it will provide me opportunities to talk with them about current literature and how it shapes them as a reader.
