This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second year teacher in a public elementary school, learning, playing, and growing with my incredible third graders! I work in a school serving a high needs population - about 50% of students come from low-income families, about 40% of students are English learners, and a high percentage of students are struggling academically. My school is particularly focused on bridging the achievement gap by integrating culturally responsive teaching, balanced literacy, and programs specifically designed to reach English language learners and students who need differentiated academic support.

I am committed to creating a classroom environment in which all of my students feel included, valued, empowered, and excited to learn.

Learning is a collaborative experience wherein each student will be recognized for their strengths and supported when they feel challenged. The projects on my page give students the resources they need to work in the learning space they deserve.

My Project

My students practice literacy centers on a daily basis to build their reading comprehension, vocabulary development, writing skills, and fluency. To help my students be as successful as possible, they need book bins to hold their work, daily practice journals to keep record of their progress, and paper organizers to store writing prompts and completed assignments. Students will use the book bins to hold their leveled books, their academic processing journals, and any assignments they work on during our "daily 5" literacy block.

Literacy is the foundation for academic success; my students need the tools and supplies necessary for engaging in exciting, rigorous, and consistent literacy center activities.

Through this project, I will be able to provide my class with the structure and space they need to participate in literacy centers in the most effective way possible!
