Love Diversity

Help me give my students character capes, journals and Hoberman spheres for a year of appreciating themselves and seeing the beauty in others during class meetings and literacy.

My Students

My students are amazing! Yes, they are not from the most affluent area but that is not what makes greatness. My students are me. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. My parents weren't well off but they wanted better for me.

Sometimes my students see beauty in others instead of realizing that they are wonderfully made.

This project will help my students recognize their own uniqueness while appreciating the differences of others too.

My Project

I will use the materials to encourage diversity, social emotional learning and writing in my classroom each day. Each child will appreciate their place in society as well as learning to respect others.

During our learning centers, the students will use the materials to discuss what makes them special and see that we all more similar than we are different.

The project materials will also be used by our junior high anti-bullying committee. They will visit classrooms and teach the younger students about diversity, inclusion and self-awareness.

The storytelling books are going to enhance our inclusion focus by using Strictly No Elephants to capture the magic of friendship even if we are different.

The writing posters will usher in the school year perfectly by displaying what makes each student special. We will use these for Open House 2021.

Save the Day Character Capes are an absolutely fun way for second graders to represent important character traits that we want to use during dramatic play and readers theatre. The students will feel proud wearing the cape of a character we read about that week.
