I teach a bright group of kindergartners at a Title 1 School. Most children have learned the letters, letter sounds, and some basic sight words. Now they are anxious to put in all together to read! My children are looking for opportunities to read. They take home picture books longing to read instead of being read to. Very frustrating for them is the fact that they recognize words on a flashcard but not in a book. They need practice reading basic sight words in text rather than in isolation. I fell in love at first sight with a set of books written to solve this very problem. The set is called Sight Word Readers. There are 12 titles. Each book has colorful pictures, a lively story, and contains the basic sight words children need to learn. The books provide practice with the basic sight words in a text they can successfully read on their own. Children would be able to read the books in the morning, during center time, in small groups, and borrow to take home and read to their family. These books will provide children with reading practice they are longing for. The Sight Word Readers Classroom Pack includes 72 books (6 each of 12 titles). The books can be used by the entire class and can be used each year. Countless students will fall in love at first sight with these books.
